If you can not come in person for any reason, you can easily take samples yourself by following our simple instruction below. Only one of the following samples is needed for each person (CUSTOMERS IN ONE TEST ARE NOT REQUIRED TO TAKE THE SAME TYPE OF SAMPLE)

A dedicated CGAT sample collection kit is supplied free of charge
(with specific instructions).
Label the Sampling Card from the Sample Collection Kit with name and relationship to be tested.

The finger must be sterile before sampling by sterile cotton and medical alcohol.

Use a new and sterile needle or an insulin pen gently pierce the fingertip (the ring finger preferred)

The card should be kept in a sealed paper envelope, NOT in a plastic envelope or container.
Write the name of the donor outside the envelope and seal.
This sample can be kept in room temperature for a long time, without strict preservation rules.

Apply about ¼ of the drop of blood to the pink rectangle (in the center of the circle). Then let the bloodstain dry at the room temperature for 3-5 minutes.

1. DRY BLOOD SAMPLE

The sample consists of about 4 - 5 drops of blood (1ml) that is drawn by means of a needle and deposited in a special PVC tube (called an EDTA tube). Then shake well and keep at 4 -10 Degree Celsius before sending.

2. BLOOD

Pluck 3 pieces of hair or beard with root, unbroken pluck is qualified. Mitochondrial testing requires 5 to 7 hair with follicle. Do not touch the root.
This sample should be packed in a clean paper and labeled correctly with the donor’s name.

3. HAIRBASES

The minimum amount of fingernails and toenails required for the test is 5 to 10 mg (the same size of a grain of rice).

4. FINGERNAILS

It is recommended NOT to eat or drink at least one hour before a sample is taken. Use a separate envelope and swab for each person. Please complete the information (name & relationship to be determined) on the envelop before taking the samples.

It doesn't mean taking saliva, but it is dead cell underneath the inner cheek. Take the mouth wash by normal drinking water (3 times) before sampling.

A sample is taken by gently rubbing the broad side of the swab 10 times against both cheeks, under the tongue and behind the lips, each time for 5 seconds. The swab is then placed on clean paper for drying for about 15 minutes before putting into the correct paper envelop. (Nylon zipper or envelop is NOT recommended)

The same above-described procedure must be done for each person, who is involved in the test.

5. SWABS

Clean your teeth as usual, the night before sampling day. In the morning, immediately after getting up, take some drinking water to wash mouth twice. Water spitted out, then to be put in a clean bottle, labeled with the donor's name.

6. MOUTH WASH

Put the dry, clean, fallen umbilical cord into a small, clean, named envelope. If the umbilical cord is not yet thoroughly dry, make sure to dry it well before putting it into envelop. Hair dryer can be used at far distance (20-30cm) from the cord.

Samples of umbilical cord stalks kept in the kitchen upstairs for many years can still be used for good testing.

7. UMBILICAL CORD

Amniotic fluid is used as sample for relationship test, there are fetal DNA in mom’s amniotic fluid. 3-4ml of amniotic fluid required for sampling (from at least 12 weeks of pregnancy up).

Obtained amniotic fluid must be handed over to the lab IMMEDIATELY. In summer days, amniotic fluid must be kept in ice box during the transportation. Kindly contact us if you are not in Hanoi.
